I examine the values, tools, and theoretical basis for a monosemic (or 'minimalist') approach to lexical semantics in biblical studies. I found that this minimalist approach has much broader applicability than just lexical semantics, and both the tool of abstraction and the skill of paying attention to context as a factor in interpreted messages have continued to play a programmatic role in my other publications and ongoing research projects.
